Intro
I lost count of how many commemorative or appreciation days we have and/or observe recently because a good number of them don’t directly impact us but on important days like father’s day, mother’s day - if you have someone that plays that role in your life, it’s always important to honour them.
It’s National Girlfriends’ day today, August 1st and the meaning of this is misunderstood by a lot of people. Some people think it’s for couples and others believe it’s for your friends that are girls. Well, for the sake of appealing to both audiences - the content of this post will help you regardless!
What even is it?
National Girlfriend’s day is a day for you show that girl in your life how much she means to you, for you to show support and make it known that you care a lot about her presence in your life. Newsflash, if you don’t have anyone in mind, remember that you are your own girlfriend too so feel free to appreciate yourself for showing up every single day, you deserve it.
What can I do?
On this day, there are a lot of things you can try out. Let’s run through them quickly:
-
Call them and let them know how you feel
You probably call them to share every one of your day-to-day experiences but when last did you call them to let them know they are appreciated and you cherish their involvement in your life and how invested they are in your wellbeing. I can’t remember the last time someone did this for me (psst, never) but maybe it’s because I haven’t put that forward into the world.
Do it today!, do it now (after reading this post) - good put into the world always finds its way back.
-
Buy or make something custom for them
Everyone loves something custom, think about the feeling you get when you get a custom-made dress, a dress that fits perfectly. That feeling is one that does not go away quickly because every time you see that dress or put it on, it reminds you of that feeling again.
In this case, you can get a mug with a custom note written on it, a tshirt that says something cute or a set of flowers from our BuyFlowers store and we allow you attach a custom note to the order so you can say whatever you want to say and we’d make sure to pass that along - just like you want.
-
Sleepover or Pyjama parties
Sometimes, time spent with other people is more than enough therapy. Being in each other’s space tells us that we feel safe around these people and it ultimately allows us unwind and be even more of ourselves in this world where everyone is putting up a disguise.
You can plan a sleepover or a pyjama party where you guys get to chill, watch a movie (recommendation: House of The Dragon, fire 🔥 series - pun well intended). At these sort of get-togethers, you get to set the ambiance and the mood for the entire night and it’s up to you to mix and match whatever you want to do, you can people watch if you live in a high-rise building, you can play games, you can cook or order take-out. It’s all in your hands.
-
Share an experience
This is my favourite because it’s a mixture of the options above. Shared experiences are where the grounds of solid friendships are formed. This does not have to be traumatic, it can also be pleasant. You can do anything, expensive or not, experiences can range from trying out a new dish together, picking out the colour of your nails at a nail salon or going plant shopping.
Outro
The moral of the story is, appreciate those that mean a lot to you because you don’t know how long you have left with them and letting them know this through various acts of service will go a long way in solidifying your relationship.
Till we meet next time, bye!
